The Company has assembled a board with significant experience. This includes knowledge of the UK drinks sector, corporate finance expertise and connections to the Chinese market. Members of the board also have experience in building and selling businesses and are supported by a capable management team including an award-winning distiller. Details of the board are as follows:
Richard Day, aged 61 – Non-Executive Chairman
Mr Day, a qualified lawyer and, himself, a member of the QCA Remuneration Committee which produced the new Remco Guide, is an experienced Non-Executive Director with particular financial markets strengths, having had a diverse and successful senior management career, acquiring extensive knowledge of public markets, corporate finance and corporate governance across a range of sectors. He was a co-founder of AIM-Listed institutional stockbroker, Arden Partners plc where he worked from 2002 until 2015, and was Head of Corporate Finance for most of his time with the firm. He played an important role in building the business both domestically and internationally. Since then, he has been on the boards of various listed companies . He is currently Non-Executive Chairman of “Big Data” analytics company, Pelatro plc which is listed on AIM. He is also Chairman of Eden Geothermal Limited, a private company, which is drilling the first well on its two-well deep geothermal site at the world-famous Eden Project in Cornwall.
Mark Gamble, aged 68 – Executive Director
Mark is often described as visionary with a successful track record over last 40 years of innovation. In 1975, he built up one of the largest Commercial Foodservice Equipment manufacturer and distributor in the UK. Mark developed a state-of-the-art mains communication Temperature monitor system now sold all over the world. In 1999 he designed one on the first GPRS tracking devices and set up an IoT vehicle tracking company. In 2012 he created Union Distillers Ltd, developed a range of “Mighty fine British Spirits” and is now established as a premiere UK Distillery.
“Sophie” Guifang Luo, aged 52 –Non-Executive Director
Mrs Luo represents the Company’s Chinese investors on the Board and is the Company’s ambassador in China although she is based in the UK. Since 2015 she has been the managing director of a group of Chinese nurseries that has a joint venture with Craigclowan Preparatory School. She also has family interests in several Chinese businesses in Shaanxi province including a green tea plantation in Ziyang from whom the Company purchases tea and a shopping centre in Ankang.
Mark Jones, aged 61, Chief Executive Officer
Mark was appointed to the Board in March 2022 having joined the Company in October 2021 as Interim CEO. Since joining the Company Mark has succeeded in stabilising operations and helping develop a twin-track strategy for growth across the Company’s white label and own brand operationsPrior to joining BHC, Mark had an extensive career in senior leadership roles within the leisure and hospitality industry, including his most recent position as CEO at Carluccio's Restaurants and has extensive public market experience. He has held executive roles with Rank Group plc, Premium Bars & Restaurants Group plc, Goals Soccer Centres plc, Yates Group PLC, Whitbread PLC where he was CEO of Pizza Hut Ltd in a career spanning 35+ years.
